BCBS Ultrasound Certification Process
As you are aware, in the fall of 2006 The Society met with BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia concerning the ultrasound certification process they were planning to implement. The plan required OBGYN offices to present application to BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia for certification and to become certified by AIUM or ACR within one year of provisional acceptance of the application letter.
The Society has met with State Insurance Commissioner Oxendine concerning this issue and continues to meet with BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia to find a workable solution. At this time the BCBS/GA requirement for certification is on hold for OBGYN practices and BCBS/GA continues to pay providers for ultrasounds as usual. Progress is being made toward a workable solution.
